Golf enthusiasts often travel to Los Angeles in search of their sport. Its sunny climate and landscape offer ideal conditions for championship courses to thrive here, though many are exclusive members-only courses. There is also a vibrant public golf scene offering exciting challenges at all price ranges with breathtaking views.
Your might expect that in a city such as Los Angeles filled with Hollywood elites and luxurious excess, the golf scene would reflect this; but contrary to expectations, LA offers an impressive public course scene featuring historic municipal courses in excellent condition at affordable greens fees - even during peak season tee times at these courses are well under what would cost for dinner out!
Noel Freeman (Panelist since 2010; has played 81 of the World Top 100): LACC has received one of the finest restorations ever, with meticulous care taken with bunkering and the way the land unfurls, as well as added strategic depth through removal of vegetation and width building on certain holes. As such, playing it remains a treat - particularly its incredible par threes!
Niall Hay (Panelist since 2020; has played 65 of the World Top 100 courses): Personally, I would rank Riviera slightly ahead of LACC because it offers a more pure golf experience with consistent routing, better green complexes, and strong par threes - particularly exciting is playing 14th hole which was truly unforgettable for me!
